What's happening this term

TERM 4

Nursery

Our theme is Land, sea and air.

Each week, we will be focussing on a specific area linked to this topic.  Firstly, we will be thinking about different types of transport, talking about whether that transport goes on the land, sea or the air.  We will discuss why some transport is important such as emergency vehicles or those that make important deliveries. The children will also be creating their own vehicles when junk modelling.   Moving on to animals that can be found in different areas looking at their habitats, their patterns and their properties e.g. can they fly/not fly, how many legs etc. After we will be looking at different foods, where they are grown, how they are transported and how they taste.  We will be giving the children the opportunity to chop different fruits and vegetables and do some taste testing.  During this topic we will be supporting the children’s communication and language with being able to name and group different objects and sort them into different categories.

Our hotspot for Nursery this term is still “I can sit still and actively listen during carpet times”

Pre-School

Our theme is Change and Growth.

We will be using the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to begin looking at lots of different life cycles and doing lots of crafts connected with this story.  Just as there is a sequence to life cycles, we will also be learning how to sequence our stories.  We will look at changes in ourselves as we get older and encourage children to bring in photos of family showing different generations for discussion in circle time.  We will make healthy snacks talking about the benefits of eating healthy food and how to keep our bodies healthy including brushing our teeth.  Physical exercise will take place several times each week in the hall and we will be exploring the outdoor environment to discover changes in the natural world around us.

Our hotspot this term is: "I am learning to sit still and actively listen to my teachers and friends for a short while.  I am learning to follow instructions".
